Our first chair: The birth of the Mudra Chair

Our first chair: The birth of the Mudra Chair

In May 2021, we finally introduced our first chair: the Mudra Chair . This milestone marked ANKA Taller's debut in designing furniture with its own identity. Due to the technical limitations we had in the workshop at the time, we set ourselves a challenge: to create a chair based on a single construction element. The solution was to design it from a single wooden slat , achieving a simple aesthetic with great visual impact and functionality.

Design inspired by balance and mental health

The pandemic and lockdown have led us to reflect on the impact of objects and furniture on our mental health. How do interior spaces influence our emotional well-being?

One possible answer lies in nature. We find beauty and harmony in landscapes, organic textures, and the natural order of the world. If we can apply these principles to design, we can replicate that sense of calm and connection in our interior spaces.

Beauty is subjective, but at the Mudra Chair, we seek to convey this idea through a powerful concept: mudras . In Buddhism and Hindu yoga, mudras are hand gestures that channel energy and balance. Our chair reflects this symbolism in its structure, where the wooden slats intersect, creating a design based on connection, order, and harmony.

Materiality: Lenga, a wood with history and character

From the beginning, we wanted the Mudra Chair to have a strong material identity. We chose Lenga wood , also known as the "Cherry of Tierra del Fuego." This wood, native to southern Chile, stands out for its natural multi-tonality , with shades ranging from grayish to pinkish and yellow. Each chair is unique, with a visual richness that reinforces the concept of individuality within the harmony of the design.

A design with purpose

The Mudra Chair is not just a functional object; it's a design proposal that seeks to connect the natural with the everyday. Its construction system, based on wooden crosses, reflects the fusion of tradition and modernity, while its anthropometric design guarantees comfort and ergonomics.

This is how our first chair was born, kicking off a journey of exploration and creativity at ANKA Taller. And this is just the beginning! Every week we update our blog with new stories, designs, and inspirations. Don't miss it!
