From the beginning, at ANKA Taller, we felt a natural inclination toward wood over metal. Not only because we had more tools and experience working with it, but also because metal, with its noisier and dirtier handling, didn't seem to fit our design vision. Everything changed when we discovered electrostatic painting .
The color revolution in metal
Seeing iron furniture painted yellow or blue for the first time with a uniform, durable finish was a revelation. Electrostatic painting allowed us to explore a new dimension of design, something difficult to achieve with wood: vibrant, uniform color.
For those unfamiliar with it, this technique involves applying powdered paint to metal using an electrostatic gun. The piece is then baked at high temperatures, permanently fusing the paint to the surface. This discovery sparked in us the desire to create a chair entirely out of metal and in striking colors .
Minimalist design at its finest
Following the same approach as the Mudra Chair , we sought the minimal essence of a seating object: a seat and a backrest . From this premise, the Pliego Chair was born , where a folded sheet of iron fulfills both functions, supported by a structure that gives it lightness and stability. The result is a chair that seems to defy gravity, with its seat and backrest floating in the air.
Designing with metal was a risky venture. We faced challenges such as the material's stability and durability, but after various tests, we achieved a design that supports over 150 kg , is comfortable, stable, and can be manufactured in any color we want thanks to electrostatic painting.
A patented design and our greatest success
Today, the Pliego Chair is our second design patent and has become our most successful product. Its versatility, durability, and aesthetic appeal have made it a key piece in our collection.
The creation process for this chair began in our first paint shop, with a prototype that marked the beginning of a new era for ANKA Taller. And this is just the beginning!
